Still at West Lodge, we had a lovely birthday dinner in the hotel complete with candle in the dessert!
The forecast was for heavy rain, but the morning was bright so we made an early start and headed to Glengarriff for the ferry to Garinish Island. On the way we saw seals and a family of white-tailed eagles.
We took the option for a guided tour of the house, explaining the history of the Bryce family and the vision for the gardens. Split into a number of designs, Italian, Greek, valley of rhododendrons, Martello tower and walled garden, our favourite was the Italian garden.
Sadly the promised rain arrived, so we made our way to the campsite attached to Berehaven Golf club and watched the rather damp golfers coming into the Clubhouse.
