Ireland
Ballyness to Clare Glen campsite
16 September 2024

Today was a travelling day towards Dublin. We set off in lovely sunshine, but noticed that it was very misty towards the coast.
We called in to a garage in Ballymoney for some LPG, at 88.9p a good price compared to England.
The roads and scenery are now just like England. Gone are the stone walls separating the fields, the narrow lanes, and of course Irish road signs.
We stopped in Antrim for a break and found the Castle Gardens with a nice cafe. We wandered around the old castle ruins and then followed the river down to Lough Neagh. (i-Spy points)
By now the sun was out and it was really warm, jackets and fleeces came off and we had another coffee sitting outside by the river.
There were links here to Giant Finn McCool, he of the Giant’s Causeway fame. The lough was also used to film scenes from Game of Thrones. A wooden boat called the Joyce was used to retrieve torpedoes launched from the test rig in the middle of the lake during WW2.
On our way back to the van we found a walled garden with the controversial statue of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. It definitely didn’t look much like them and the corgis looked far too big in relation to the figures.
Another hour brought us to our campsite for the night. It’s an unmanned Municipal site only accessible by code supplied by email the day prior to arrival.
We sat out in the sun for about an hour before we were left in shade.
