Blogging about 26
Salsbury, Caravan & Camping
16 July 2026

We watched one of our YouTubers, who had recently visited Salisbury, he told us about the discounted pitch fees to celebrate the Camping & Caravan Club 125 year anniversary. £12.50 per night was too much of a bargain to miss so we booked three nights, 13 -16 July 26.

It was hot, living in a metal box in full sun was challenging. The first day I found shade and Lillian walked to Old Sarum, the abandoned medieval settlement and hillfort, close to the site. Later when it was cooler we walked to the local pub for a cool drink and enjoyed a fabulous sunset on the walk back to the site.

The next day we ventured in Salisbury on the local bus, we discovered we had hit upon market day (Tuesday) and found one of Lillian’s favourite shops, Bradbeers, homage was paid within the shoe department. We also visited the National Trust Mompresson House, a homely and welcoming 18th-century townhouse in the Cathedral Close. We decided we would return the next day.

Back on the bus to Salisbury and first stop was to find breakfast at Côte:
“we’ve always believed the best meals are about more than what’s on the plate”

We both had the full English and we enjoyed it very much both the setting, service and food. That was until we found a large delivery of seed oil on our way back from the loo. Oh dear, but it tasted so good….

After breakfast we visited Salisbury Cathedral, we learnt that if you booked the visitor tickets on-line you saved £2 each, so we did. We spent a good 2 hours exploring the Cathedral and listening to the volunteer guides. One intersting point was that the Cathedral was built on a flood plane and it is important to monitor the depth of water beneath the foundations.

We tested the canopy again and sunshade, not ideal but did the job.
